Posted Date: 3/11/2010 10:00 AM
The Wenatchee Valley Museum will host Hank Cramer and a consort of Celtic musicians for a Saint Patrick’s Day concert on Saturday, March 20, at 7:00pm.

Hank is one of the Northwest’s best-known folksingers, and he’s gathered together a number of fine singers and instrumentalists to present an evening of Irish music. The performers will include Robby Thran of Winthrop on hammered dulcimer, Audra Poor and Maggie MacInnis of Chehalis on uileann pipes and bodhran, Josie Solseng of Olympia on fiddle, and Jessie McKeegan of Black Lake on pennywhistle. Brian Maskew of Winthrop and Mark Iler of Black Lake will share lead vocals with Hank.

Hank Cramer has recorded 19 CDs and several movie soundtracks. His most recent release is a CD called “Loosely Celtic,” comprised of his favorite Irish ballads. The musicians in the show also performed on the album.

Two of the more unusual instruments in the ensemble are the uileann pipes and hammered dulcimer. The first is an Irish bagpipe, quieter and more versatile than the Scottish highland pipes. It is popular in Ireland, where it is used in vocal and instrumental ensembles for traditional tunes. The hammered dulcimer originated in Persia over 2,000 years ago but is now popular worldwide, especially in Celtic music circles.

The show will begin at 7:00pm, with doors open by 6:30. Admission is $15.00 adults, $10.00 for seniors (60+) and students (6-16). The musicians’ CDs will be available for sale during the break. The Wenatchee Valley Museum is located at 127 South Mission. For more information call (509) 888-6240 or visit www.wvmcc.org.
