The Wenatchee Police Department features the following Specialty Units:
Investigations
This unit consists of a Sergeant and four detectives assigned as investigators, each with specialized training in their area of expertise. One detective primarily investigates crimes against persons, while another operates as a property crimes detective and the third officer serves as a fraud detective. The fourth officer is used to support the others in their fields of expertise. The five officers are assisted by a clerk.
Columbia River Drug Task Force
One officer is assigned to a local City-County Narcotics Task Force. This officer works hard to interdict, suppress and deter the sale of illegal drugs and their use in our community.
S.W.A.T.
The Wenatchee Police Department features seven officers who join the Chelan County Sheriff’s Office to complete this well-trained multi-agency tactical team.
PROACT
Suppressing and deterring gang violence is a priority for our community. As such, the department features four gang officers, as well as gang specialists assigned to each patrol shift.
Bike Patrol
Many officers in the department are trained bike patrol officers. From spring through fall, the bike patrol can be seen patrolling our City parks and the downtown community.
Traffic Unit
Compliance with traffic laws makes the roads safer for everyone. One full-time officer focuses on enforcement of traffic laws, while patrol officers emphasize traffic safety as part of their daily duties.
School Resource Officers
Two officers work to enforce laws and keep our children safe, while mentoring and coaching kids at City schools. These officers are assisted by security officers within the Wenatchee School District.
Crime Prevention
SSD officers work within the community to prevent and deter crime. By reaching out to the community through a combination of educational programs and speaking engagements, this officer is able to educate the public on how to avoid becoming a victim of crime.
