This comprehensive exhibit, curated by the Washington State Historical Society, is the state's lead activity celebrating the centennial of women obtaining the right to vote in Washington. On display at WVMCC from Oct. 24 through Jan. 9, the exhibit explores how women's voting influenced state history, such as prohibition laws. Through more than 200 artifacts, interactive kiosks and oral histories, it shows how women from various ethnic and economic groups achieved a voice in Washington's public life. Modern artifacts include a space suit worn by astronaut Bonnie Dunbar and memorabilia from notable women in sports. Speakers at the opening reception will include Sen. Linda Evans Parlette, Sen. Karen Fraser from the Women's History Consortium, Wenatchee Mayor Dennis Johnson, and anti-violence activist Dora Trevino. Refreshments will be provided by the Daughters of the American Revolution. The exhibit is co-sponsored by Community Foundation of NCW and McDee's Art Center. "Women's Votes, Women's Voices" is an exhibition organized by the WA State Historical Society and the Northwest Museum of Arts & Culture under the auspices of Washington's Women's History Consortium.
