Residential Burning

Burning leaves, clippings, and other yard and gardening vegetation is not allowed within the City of Wenatchee or the Wenatchee Urban Growth Area.  Burning regulations vary for county residents.  Contact the Chelan County District #1 or Douglas County District #2 for more information on county regulations.

Recreational Fires

Burning barrels and open fire pits are not allowed within the City.  However, all commercially available outdoor fire devices for outdoor recreational use are allowed when used within the manufacturer's recommendations and on a noncombustible surface.  These devices are prohibited during summer fire season burn bans.

Agricultural Burning

Orchards (as substantiated by the most recent IRS Schedule F for commercial agriculture operations) within the City of Wenatchee Urban Growth Area may burn orchard-pruned material. 

  • Call the Agriculture Burn Hotline at 1 (800) 406-5322 to check local smoke ventilation conditions 
  • Contact Wenatchee Fire and Rescue with details of your planned burn
  • Burning other materials is prohibited
  • Burning must stop immediately if neighbors complain of smoke.

A Department of Ecology (DOE) permit is required for orchard clearing in the City.  Contact DOE at (509) 574-1410 for permits and information.

The Reclamation District is exempt by State WAC and allowed to burn weeds along the irrigation canal each spring.
