Super Summer Sleepover at the Museum
Families can explore secret spaces, camp out in Museum exhibits
Do you ever wonder where the Wenatchee Valley Museum keeps the goodies in its collections that aren’t currently on display? Does your family like prowling around in the dark with flashlights, investigating secret spaces? The behind-the-scenes guided tour of the Museum is one of the highlights of the Super Summer Sleepover, coming up on Saturday and Sunday, July 31 and August 1.
Curator Mark Behler and Director Brenda Abney will guide family groups through several of the Museum’s basement collection rooms to view vintage clothing, an antique sleigh, a whiskey still, an iron lung and many more curiosities that have been donated to the Museum. Winding through hallways, spiral staircases and catwalks, you’ll get to look out of the peepholes that postal inspectors once used to spy on workers when the building served as the Wenatchee post office.
Other activities during the Sleepover include old-fashioned games, posing for a family photo to take home, eating popcorn and watching “Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian” on the big screen, and camping out in Museum exhibits. Prizes will be awarded for those able to complete a special scavenger hunt.
The event will begin at 6:00pm on Saturday and finish at 9:00am Sunday after a light breakfast. The cost is $35.00 per person, or $30.00 for Museum members. A parent or guardian must accompany children. To preregister or for more information, call the Wenatchee Valley Museum at (509) 888-6240.
