Wenatchee is growing! Is there enough housing for our citizens? Do we have the infrastructure to support a growing economy? Is there enough space for recreation and leisure? What does our community value and how do we ensure these values are supported as we grow? Without a vision and a plan to achieve our goals, we will not be able to answer these questions.
What is a Comprehensive Plan?
The City of Wenatchee Comprehensive Plan is our community’s strategic vision for the next 20 years. With input from our whole community, this plan sets a vision to protect our resources and ensure our needs are met throughout the City.
Why are we updating our Plan?
- Washington State law requires cities to plan for growth under the Growth Management Act (GMA).
- We must update our Plan every 10 years, as new trends and issues emerge. This update is due June 2026.
- Plans project 20 years into the future. This update will plan through 2046.
- For more information about the update process, check out the Project Timeline.
What is in the Comprehensive Plan?
The Comp Plan, as we affectionately call it, is made up of a series of Elements, or chapters. These chapters attempt to focus growth to urban areas to reduce sprawl, accommodate projected residential and economic growth, plan transportation systems regionally, retain open space and recreation opportunities, protect natural resources and utilities, plan for natural emergencies, protect property rights, and above all, reflect the culture and vision of our community.
