Why is the City doing this Project?

The city was awarded the Lincoln Elementary Safe Routes to School (SRTS) WSDOT funding utilizing Climate Commitment Act (CCA) funds to improve pedestrian safety at Methow Street and Ferry street crossing.
In 2016 the city constructed intersection improvements with Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons (RRFB) a pedestrian-activated traffic safety device featuring rectangular yellow lights that flash rapidly to alert drivers to pedestrians.

The Wenatchee School District's Lincoln Elementary School zone includes families north of Ferry Street, some of these students walk to school.  Because Ferry Street has parking on both sides of the roadways, pedestrians aren’t always visible as they wait to cross the roadway because they are out of sight behind parked vehicles.  This project will add Curb bulb-outs to help make pedestrians more visible to drivers, thus increasing safety as they step out into the roadway.   Additionally, it makes the roadway crossing distance shorter for pedestrians.

What will the Project include?

The project will improve the intersection with chockers, curb extensions, high visibility crosswalks, stop line controlled crosswalks, stop signs, Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons.
