Why is the City doing this project?

The City was awarded grant funding through the Washington State Department of Transportation's Local Bridge Program to replace the irrigation canal bridge on Millerdale Avenue. Due to structural deficiencies that were identified during inspection, the Millerdale Avenue canal crossing has been load posted to indicate a reduction in safe load-carrying capacity. Given the age of the bridge and existing concerns it would only be a matter of time before additional loss of section results in further reduction of the safe load-carrying capacity. By replacing the bridge the current load posting could be removed among a variety of other benefits.

What will this project include?

The project involves removing and replacing the structurally deficient bridge on Millerdale Avenue that spans the Wenatchee Reclamation District canal. A new structure will be installed, designed with sufficient width to position the bridge rail outside the clear zone and to incorporate pedestrian facilities that meet current accessibility standards. The bridge approaches will be reconstructed to align with the updated horizontal and vertical geometry of the new structure. As part of the bridge work the irrigation canal will have to be realigned and the existing utilities crossing underneath will have to be relocated/reconstructed. 

This project also includes City of Wenatchee funded storm drain and water utility work in proximity to the bridge replacement. 

What to expect?

This project is set to begin construction in Mid-October 2026. The working hours will be between 7:00am - 6:00pm.  Vehicles will be unable to travel from Appleland Drive to Millerdale Avenue for the full duration of the project due to the nature of the work. A signed detour will be in effect. There will be planned water service outages.
