Why is the City doing this Project?

Red Apple Road between Vista Place and Miller Street is mostly lacking sidewalks and bike facilities.  Wenatchee High School is along the north side of the roadway for much of this section.  During events at the high school or its' track facility, the only choice for student and families who park on Red Apple Road is to walk in the travel lane in order to access the school property.  In addition, apartments are currently being constructed on the south side of the street which will  increase the amount of people walking along and crossing the street.  In addition, there have also been complaints about vehicles speeding on this section of the street.

What will this Project include?

Sidewalks will be constructed on both sides of the road to increase safety for pedestrians.  Bike facilities will also be installed on both sides of the street and street lights will be installed.  This project will replace the on-street angle parking with parallel parking. Traffic calming measures are also being evaluated to help slow down traffic on this street.   The road will also get an asphalt overlay which will help it to last longer.

What to expect?

This project is expected to start Spring 2026.  There will be some short term road closures.  Residents will have access to their homes. Chelan County PUD is currently working on their relocation work so there may be some intermittent power outages.  This project will be advertised for bids for construction March 12, 2026.  This project will be constructed in halves, east and west.  There will be a whole road closure at the end of the projects for paving.  Residents will have 72 hour notice from the contractor.
