Why is the City doing this Project?
The goal of this project is to improve safety and mobility for children walking or bicycling to school. This project will install new sidewalk with curb and gutter, new ADA compliant curb ramps, new marked crosswalks, and a new marked pedestrian route along Sunset Avenue. The project will also construct Rectangular Rapid-Flashing Beacons (RRFB) at the intersection of Fifth Street and Sunset Avenue.
What will the Project include?
This project includes the following:
- On Sunset Avenue between Orchard Middle School entrance and 3rd Street install:
- Sidewalk (5โ + wide, west side only) with curb and gutter from a point even with south end of Wenatchee School District Administrative building to new ADA accessible corner treatment at 3rd St. (~140โ)
- Pavement marking of pedestrian route from school entrance to south end of sidewalk on west side of Sunset Ave. (~80โ)
- ADA curb ramps (1)
- At the intersection of Sunset Ave and 3rd St install:
- Marked crosswalk (west leg of intersection only)
- ADA curb ramps (2)
- At the intersection of Sunset Ave and 5th St install:
- RRFBs (2)
- Marked crosswalk (west leg of intersection only)
- ADA curb ramps (4 = two double ramps or bidirectional ramps, in line with crossings on of 5th St. on west leg and Sunset Ave. on south and north legs of intersection)

What to expect
This project is set to start construction in Summer 2026. The working hours will be between 7:00 am and 6:00pm. There will be temporary road closures during work hours. There are no anticipated water or power outages.
