What is the Youth Academy?

The Youth Academy is a 12 day program that provides students with first-hand information about how the Wenatchee Police Department operates. Are you interested in a law enforcement career? This is the perfect summer class to get acquainted with law enforcement’s role in serving and protecting the community and get exposed to the tasks police officers encounter in the daily performance of their duties.

Academy sessions are taught by police officers, department support personnel and other criminal justice professionals. Daily sessions cover a range of topics including information about specialty units, patrol procedures, community-oriented policing, domestic violence, sex crimes, dispatch and records procedures, use of force, career development, traffic enforcement, etc. The Academy instruction is usually presented in English and ends with a graduation ceremony with diplomas presented by Chief Crown.

The mission of the Youth Academy is to promote a positive interaction between Wenatchee Police Department and the youth to produce graduates with values, life skills and self-discipline to succeed.
