This page is intended to provide information regarding the Olds Station Annexation.

The final decision on the annexation was made at a public hearing on March 24, 2016 at 5:15PM in the City Council Chambers at 301 Yakima Street, 3rd Floor in Wenatchee. Ordinance 2016-07 was approved by the Wenatchee City Council and will take effect on May 29, 2016. Information regarding the transition will be sent out to property owners prior to the effective date.

The area north of the current Wenatchee City limits, known as Olds Station (shown in red in the map below), is located within the City’s Urban Growth Area (shown in yellow). The urban growth area is defined in the Chelan County and Wenatchee Comprehensive Plans. All areas within urban growth areas are eligible for annexation or incorporation as long as a proposed annexation area is contiguous with the existing city limits. This annexation employed the Direct Petition Method.

In fall 2014, a petition was submitted by a business owner in the annexation area, however this annexation did not go forward. On October 1, 2015, a second application for annexation of Olds Station was submitted by a business owner in the annexation area. The Wenatchee City Council met with the applicants on November 5, 2015. At this meeting the council decided to go ahead and accept the petition for annexation, set the boundary as proposed, accept current zoning for not more than one year, and chose to have the annexation area assume existing indebtedness excluding the police station bond and associated levy. A petition was then created and circulated. On December 18, 2015 a petition was submitted to the Chelan County Assessor’s Office by the City of Wenatchee. On March 1, 2016 the City received a notice that the signatures on the petition represented 62.7% of the assessed value of the area and therefore met the threshold required to move forward. On March 24, 2016 at 5:15PM in the City Council Chambers at 129 South Chelan Avenue in Wenatchee, the Wenatchee City Council held a public hearing on the Olds Station Annexation. After receiving public testimony, the council voted unanimously to approve the annexation.
